GARS26 Junior Workshop
9-10 June 2026
Cranfield University, DARTeC PE Lab
(Grid D6 on Campus Map)
College Rd, Wharley End, Bedford MK43 0AL, United Kingdom
In the early stages of an academic career, there is ample opportunity to build research networks. The GARS Junior Workshop offers an informal platform to share research on economic, management, or operational aspects of air transport with fellow students and experienced researchers. We welcome papers from ongoing or recently completed thesis projects (Bachelor, Master/MBA, PhD), including work in progress or preliminary drafts. All submissions will be evaluated by experienced reviewers. In addition to paper presentations, the workshop will feature one-slide/poster sessions. The Junior Workshop will be followed by the 7th GARS Summer School in Air Transport Economics at Cranfield University on 10–11 June.
All complete, full-paper submissions to the GARS Junior Workshop will be eligible for our Best Paper competition in the two categories Bachelor/Master/MBA and PhD/Doctoral studies. Distinguished scholars in aviation economics and management will evaluate the papers. The prize money is sponsored by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (up to €400 Bachelor/Master/MBA and €600 for PhD/Doctoral studies). Book vouchers are generously provided by Routledge.
This workshop is hosted by Cranfield University and supported by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, DLR-German Aerospace Center (Institute of Air Transport), Routledge, the Bremen University of Applied Sciences (HSB), the IU International University of Applied Sciences and airliners.de.
Topics (examples)
Air transport demand (passenger and cargo forecasts; customer segments and behaviour; the impact of military conflicts and trade wars); Air transport supply (business models; market exits and bankruptcies; slots and capacity management; congestion; resilience); Air transport regulation (climate change and environmental issues; economic regulation, liberalization, privatization).
