The System Analysis and Modelling (SAM) conference provides an open arena for participants from academia and industry to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, experiences, and concerns in modeling, specification, analysis, and realization of complex systems using ITU-T's Specification and Description Language (SDL-2010) and Message Sequence Chart (MSC) notations, as well as related system design languages — including but not limited to UML, ASN.1, TTCN-3, SysML and the User Requirements Notation (URN). This year’s edition focuses on "The Symbiosis of AI and Systems Modeling", including:
- Evolution of languages: DSLs, languages for AI systems, ModelOps.
- Model-driven development: AI-supported modeling, V&V, agile modeling, and automated verification.
- System engineering models: Digital Twins, code generation, and non-functional aspects (security, real-time).
- Industrial applications: Reports on telecommunications, aerospace, automotive, IoT, and metaverse.
Submission guidelines
SAM 2026 proceedings will be published by ACM. We invite:
- Full papers: Max 10 pages.
- Extended abstracts: Max 5 pages (+1 page for references).
- We also encourage submissions describing negative results and replication studies.
Organizers
- Robert Clarisó Viladrosa - Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Spain
- Joan Garcia Subirana - Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Spain
Publication
The proceedings of SAM 2026 will be published by ACM. Starting in 2026, ACM publications are 100% Open Access.
- Extended abstracts: No APC charge.
- Full papers: Covered by ACM Open institutional model or a subsidized APC ($250 for ACM members / $350 for non-members).
- Best papers: The best papers will be invited to submit an extension to the ISSE NASA Journal (Springer).
Venue
SAM 2026 is co-located with the 29th International Conference on Model Driven Engineering Languages and Systems (MODELS 2026). The conference will be held in person in Malaga, Spain. To register, participants must use the MODELS 2026 registration system. At least one co-author of every paper must register and present in person.
Sponsors
The SDL Forum Society that runs the conference is a non-profit organization established by language users and tool providers to promote the Specification and Description Language (SDL-2010), Message Sequence Charts (MSC) and related System Design Languages (including but not limited to ASN.1, TTCN-3, SysML and URN), to provide and disseminate information on the development and use of the languages, to support education on the languages and to plan and organize the SAM conference series and events to promote the languages.
