Agri 4.0 and the Future of Cyber-Physical Agricultural Systems
Introduction
According to a UN report by 2030, around 900 million people will suffer from hunger every day. There is a need to solve the problem so that hunger index can be reduced. Technology, especially computing technology, can provide a major chunk of solution in the field of agriculture by processing digitized data to solve the complex agronomic, agricultural demand and supply issues. In Agri 4.0, Cyber physical system synchronously interacts with agricultural systems to control and execute the operation autonomously. Agri 4.0 is the application of digitized data to execute the process of automating agriculture. Digitalization of agriculture integrates digital computers to assist the processes of agriculture with its digitized data and its allied technology like AI, Computer Vision, Big data, Block chain and IoT. Agri 4.0 digitalizes, estimate, plan, predict, and produce the optimum agricultural inputs and outputs for the required for commercial purposes. It can be used to get a fair, transparent and accountable process to serve the stakeholders. Technological convergence for building the ecosystem for cyber physical agricultural system and the usage of advanced technology to solve the complex problems in precision agriculture. The convergence of IoT, ML, Big data and 5G networks have open up all possibilities to explore and exploit the cyber physical agricultural systems. The challenges faced by the amalgamation of technology has led to issues and challenges in the economic, social, environmental setup. Many fields have emerged with the amalgamation of Explainable AI in the agriculture like precision agriculture, surveillance, security setup. The management and practices of smart multi-layer architecture and smart supply chain are one of the key application areas in Agri 4.0. The other promising areas included are like precision agriculture, autonomous systems, smart farming environment, smart production monitoring, pest detection and recovery, sustainable industrial practices and government policies in Agri 4.0.
