Abstract

The synthesis and characterization of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have gained significant attention in recent years due to their versatile applications in various fields, including medicine, nanotechnology, and materials science. This study focuses on the comprehensive investigation of AgNPs, delving into their biosynthesis, spectroscopic properties, and antibacterial efficacy. Biosynthesis of AgNPs is a sustainable and eco-friendly approach, utilizing plant extracts as reducing agents. In this research, AgNPs were successfully synthesized using a plant extract known for its rich phytochemical composition, which aids in reducing silver ions into nanoparticles. The mechanism of reduction and stabilization of AgNPs was elucidated through various analytical techniques, including UV-visible spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Spectroscopic analyses revealed that the synthesized AgNPs possess distinct optical properties, such as surface plasmon resonance (SPR), which is crucial for their potential applications in sensors and imaging. Additionally, FTIR spectroscopy elucidated the capping molecules on the AgNPs, indicating potential functionalization opportunities for various applications. The antibacterial properties of AgNPs were evaluated against a panel of pathogenic microorganisms, including Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The AgNPs exhibited significant antibacterial activity, underscoring their potential as effective antimicrobial agents. The study also explores the mechanisms underlying the antibacterial effects, including disruption of cell membranes and generation of reactive oxygen species.
